Signing a PDF online

An e-signature lets someone sign a document online, and in most business uses it has the same legal effect as ink.

How it works. You upload the PDF, place the fields, and send it. The signer opens a link, signs, and everyone gets the signed copy.

What makes it hold up. The signer means to sign, agrees to do business electronically, and there is a record of who signed and when: the audit trail. In the US, the ESIGN Act and state laws based on UETA cover this.

When to use ink. Some documents, such as wills and some court and property papers, may still need ink or a notary. Check before you send.

A common one to sign: Form W-9. Send it with Sign and keep the signed copy.
